These pages were developed to respond to the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004. This legislation requires school districts receiving federal funding for child nutrition programs to establish Local School Wellness Policies by the beginning of the 2006–2007 school year.

The site is organized into eight sections, select a graphic to access the pages related to each topic. The Policy News section highlights new resources or additions to the web pages, and Questions and Comments sends your comments or questions to the CHKRC staff.

Just Released! SHAPE Fall 2008 – Nutrition Standards PowerPoint This program introduces the need for nutrition standards for competitive foods and beverages, the legislation that established California’s standards, and provides overviews of federal and state requirements.

School Nutrition…By Design! (PDF file) This report includes practical steps, resources, and examples from school districts and organizations that have already implemented successful strategies to improve the school nutrition environment.

The Guidance for the Development of California School Wellness Policies (PDF file) was created by the Local School Wellness Policy (LSWP) collaborative group that included the California Department of Education and other state and local agencies. This resource provides recommendations for meeting LSWP requirements.
