Physical Education Content Standards Development

The Physical Education Content Standards Development Committee invites you to review the Draft California Physical Education Content Standards and provide the committee with feedback. The standards are designed to provide a clear description of what students at each grade level should know and be able to do in the discipline of physical education.

Each standard includes a rationale, description and student expectations for each grade level. In your review, please consider:

  • Language
  • Developmental appropriateness
  • Rigor
  • Every standard to be achieved by every student
  • Achievable at elementary grades in 200 minutes every 10 school days
  • Achievable at middle and high school in 400 minutes every 10 school days
  • Please use the Feedback Form (pdf), or Feedback Form (MSWord) and submit your feedback to the committee no later than August 20, 2004. Questions about submitting written feedback? Please contact PEStandards@aol.com.

The standards development committee will hold a meeting at the location indicated above. The meeting will include some activities involving the committee as a whole and may involve subcommittees. The following outline of activities is provided for convenience only. The actual order of business may be changed without notice to accommodate the needs of members, invited presenters, and key staff. Anyone interested in a particular matter should plan on being in attendance. Timing and order of activities may change. The committee and any subcommittees will commence, recess, and reconvene as necessary throughout the meeting. Time is set aside for individuals to speak on any topic NOT otherwise on the agenda. In all cases, the presiding officer reserves the right to impose time limits on presentations as may be necessary to ensure that the agenda is completed. The agenda listing is illustrative of the matters to be considered, but it is not necessarily exhaustive.
