Nutrition and Physical Activity: Local School Wellness PoliciesPrinter-Friendly Format“The health of our students is everybody’s responsibility…It is time to promote and support a culture of health and fitness in our schools.” – Jack O’Connell, State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Accesses documents and links to federal and state requirements and legislation. Reviews steps in policy development and resources. Provides examples of policies from California school districts and other federal, state, and local agencies. Furnishes resources for implementing school policies. Presents policy evaluation tools, reports, and research. Offers tips from districts that have developed policies and links to their web sites. Supplies links to nutrition and physical activity trainings, and other organizations with resources for policy development. Includes frequently asked questions about policy development. These pages were developed to respond to the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004. This legislation requires school districts receiving federal funding for child nutrition programs to establish Local School Wellness Policies by the beginning of the 2006–2007 school year. The site is organized into eight sections, select a graphic to access the pages related to each topic. The Policy News section highlights new resources or additions to the web pages, and Questions and Comments sends your comments or questions to the CHKRC staff.
