Evaluation of the California Fresh Start Program
This report summarizes the results of a comprehensive evaluation of the California Fresh Start Program (CFSP) (PDF file). The pilot program offered a ten-cent per meal reimbursement in order to increase the servings of fresh fruit and vegetables offered to school children at breakfast (in response to Senate Bill 281). The evaluation assessed how the additional ten-cents was spent, the impact on the amount of fresh fruits and vegetables purchased, changes in student breakfast participation, and numerous other outcomes.
