Sexual Health Evaluations
The reports in this section evaluate the compliance of curricula with California laws regarding sexual health and HIV/AIDS prevention education.
The evaluative criteria represent requirements set forth by the California Education Code (51930 – 51939) and the California Health and Safety Code (151000 – 151003) listed below. The purpose of these requirements is to ensure that pupils are provided with the knowledge and skills necessary to protect their sexual and reproductive health from unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, and to encourage pupils to develop healthy attitudes concerning adolescent growth and development, body image, gender roles, sexual orientation, dating, marriage, and family.
- California Comprehensive Sexual Health and HIV/AIDS Prevention Education Act – Education Code 51933 – Authorized Comprehensive Sexual Health Education. Required for school districts providing sexual health education.
- California Comprehensive Sexual Health and HIV/AIDS Prevention Education Act – Education Code 51934 – Authorized Comprehensive Sexual Health Education. Required HIV/AIDS prevention education must be taught at least once in middle school and once in high school.
- Sexual Health Education Accountability Act – California Health and Safety Code 151000 – 151003. Required for organizations providing sexual health and/or HIV/AIDS programs conducted, operated, or administered by any state agency that are funded directly or indirectly by the state, or receive any financial assistance from state funds or funds administered by a state agency, excluding any program offered by a school district, a county superintendent of schools, or a community college district.
